#Wipmadness Week 4 Give Yourself Credit

First off, I thought I'd share the cover of my upcoming book NO MORE GODDESSES:

What you all think?

I think this calls for a happy dance!

Also rumor has it NO MORE GODDESSES should be out the first week of July!

I also was able to attend a YA author panel at a local library and got to share my own writing with some teens who attended.

It was so much fun meeting these amazing authors! Right now reading GOLDEN by Jessi Kirby. She's the author on the far right. You all should see her book. It's gorgeous! I also finally got to meet Laurie Faria Stolarz author of DEADLY LITTLE LESSONS and my favorite YA paranormal series BLUE IS FOR NIGHTMARES. Plus Kathyrn Fitzmaurice author of the adorable MG--THE YEAR THE SWALLOWS CAME EARLY. **Kathyrn also took a class from my former UCIrvine writing mentor, Louella Nelson. Talk about a small world!

Now for our theme today I thought I'd tie in something from the above photo. Notice something? Yes, I'm not in the photo. I'm still camera shy but I did get my photo taken in a few other places.

Which brings me to my theme: Giving ourself credit.

I know this might sound a little self serving but am I the only one that can be the biggest cheerleader for other author friends but when it comes to my own work? I want to hide in a corner as I feel awkward with the attention.

Once again I'm taking a prompt for the amazing book A YEAR OF WRITING DANAGEROUSLY by Barbara Abercrombie

...You're creating a whole world our of your imagination...This is hard work; no wonder writing is exhausting and can make us a little strange. Give yourself some credit for what you're doing...

I love this one quote too from author Beth Kephart-

Writing is almost always too hard, except when the story blows in.

So for this week I want all of you to look back and give yourselves credit for the writing you've done. Celebrate it. And if it's been hard for you this past week? Look for something positive in what you've done be it writing, researching, reading.

Like my 12 year old told me the other day:

"Mommy, where do you get all these stories? You have one huge imagination!"

Plus, remember I'm shaking my pom-poms your way!

And our winner from last week is:

Candilynn!!

Email me which book you'll lost.

This week's books are:

And the amazing YA contemporary novel:

Now I'm passing on my #wipmadness pom-poms to Angelina for July: http://yascribe.blogspot.com/

Awesome cover! And congrats!

I'm completely camera shy, which is why I'm usually the one WITH the camera, clicking away at everyone else.

Have a good week, everyone!

Love the cover, Kim! I bet you can hardly sit still awaiting the release. :)

I won!! I'm borrowing your happy dance! I'll email you my pick. Thank you!

I've got about 12 more hours to finish revisions on a YA short story for an anthology. When I hit send later this evening, I'll shake my pom-poms.

Hope everyone else is doing well, writing lots, and you have a productive week!
YAY! thanks for this, Kim! Oh, how I needed it! And I LOVE your cover! Congrats!

I am now about 6500 words into the new WIP, and I had an awesome brainstorm last week that took me to a new place. I've stepped out of my usual historical mode and am walking the contemporary tight rope. I just need to let myself throw it all out there instead of editing on the way, and I think I'm getting a little better at it...a little.

Still holding my breath for the finished MS...

Rock on Wipsters!!! Go, team, go!

Hey hey! Great post...all your posts this month have been actually. Always great food for thought and great cheering us on. You know the writer brain and just how to talk to it, lol!

LOVE your cover. The look, the colors and the font used for the title!

I did lots of reading. The writing? Not so much, but I will keep on trying. Taking part in #teacherswrite this summer.

Good luck wipters and thanks for seeing us through June, Kim!

Thanks Jennifer!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's camera shy. When I was little, it was totally different. But now? It's like garlic to a vampire!

Thanks for stopping by!

Deb,

Thanks Deb! I have a confession. I wasn't so sure at first on the cover. My publisher had another one that ended up being too chick lity and even though my character Jordan loves Audrey Hepburn, the book isn't just about that icon. I was biting nails worrying where it would end up going. I do love the final cover!

Thanks so much for your comments. I tried to tie in the themes this month with what was going on in my own busy/crazy life!

I love hosting this!

Thanks so much for cheering us on, Kim! I'm hoping to pick up the pace with this WIP over the summer and wind up with a decent draft by September, and I definitely appreciate the support of my fellow wipsters along the way. What an awesome group!

Congrats on the cover. And first week of July?! woot! that's SOON! Yay!

What a cool cover, Kim!

I completely get the shyness factor. Despite all those personality tests I took in school as a kid, turns out, as an adult I'm an Introvert and don't mind being a homebody. Works out perfectly with the writing life and taking care of The Keysmashing Tots.

It's taken some effort, but once I got brave enough to share my work via workshops/critique groups, I started to gain confidence in myself as a writer. I can do all the self-affirmations I want, but there's a higher level of validation that you can only get from your peers and potential readership. It's just necessary to take that first step.

I'm glad that I continue to take these steps with my fellow WIPsters. :)

I surpassed my word target of 50K for June. However, my writing time dwindled last week. My catch up over the weekend didn't go as planned and I'm surprised I got anything done. On the upside, I'm pleased with the new twists and turns in my WIP.

This week, more plotting and character sketches as my Fractured Tales Series continues to the next month and the next WriMo. I like the freedom of switching between books. Things are fitting together like puzzle pieces which helps because the majority of characters and plotlines are fairytale-based.

I'm reading up a storm for the next 90 days, too, so I'll be busy with words both written and read for the next little while.

Congrats on the book, Candilynn. Kim's line-up this month has been great.

Cheers and happy writing, everyone!
