Friday Five

1. First our week started out with the terrible news that the older brother of our son's friend tragically died in a car accident early Monday morning. They think he fell asleep at the wheel. So tragic and such a loss. His funeral is today at 11am. It's so sad to see something so tragic like this.

2. Other news is a little better. Son's charter school just leased an old school. let me tell you that this school is AWESOME. There is so much potential and also there are some great places around that I can get some writing done.

3. Got this yesterday!

4. Also can't wait to read more of this:

I'm a total Daemon fan and this book is writing in his POV!

5. My book was reviewed here the other day:

So yeah, all sorts of potential for adorableness. And it did have it’s cute moments. It …

10. It’s in my blood. Literally. There are other writers in my family and I’m distinctly related to Edgar Rice Burroughs, the author of TARZAN.
9. I’ve always loved writing in journals. There’s just something intriguing and addictive about journals. In my latest book NO MORE GODDESSES, Jordan is fascinated with the journal entries of the mysterious Alice.
8. I’m able to communicate my feelings better when I write them down. There’s just something cathartic with writing. When I was a teen, I wasn’t able to share my pain with others. Being able to write down my feelings did help.
7. I love to read. Ever since I can remember I’ve always loved reading. I think writing and reading go hand in hand.

Fun Post on Egyptian Goddess Hathor

The Goddess Hathor

Originally posted at

In my YA fantasy, No More Goddesses, not only does the film icon Audrey Hepburn play an important part in my protagonist Jordan’s life but another individual from Egyptian mythology pops up: Hathor.

When writing this novel I thought it would be fun to have a goddess of romance to mess with Jordan and her friends. I wanted someone exotic and different then the usual Greek mythological characters. I decided to choose one from Egyptian mythology as my brother-in-law Eihab is an Egyptian national and my sister is studying to be an Egyptologist.

I thought Angelina Jolie would be perfect as Hathor. She’s gorgeous and seems like she’d have just the right wicked humor to fit the role.

I thought it would be fun to see what others might know about this goddesses. So here’s some trivia questions (answers further down the blog post):

2. Finished reading this:

I was able to get the paperback from the September Teen Scholastic book order for $6. Let's just say the title and cover aren't anything like a twist on Alice in Wonderland. Plus the zombies here aren't really zombies. It was an engaging read though.

3. Love this MG time travel series from Sourcebooks:

My YA Books Central review:

Teaser: This is a fun time travel series perfect for tween and younger readers. In the first book we're introduced to Mira who finds out her missing mother is in fact a time traveler on an important mission. Now Mira goes to Rome with her brother and father in order to help her mo…

She puts on the bracelet, not knowing that it once belonged to Hathor, an Egyptian mythological goddess of love and merriment. She puts on the bracelet, has a strange feeling, and thinks about Ethan. After some crazy things happen, including Jordan hearing voices in her head and feeling strange sensations from the bracelet and Selena’s crush asking her to the dance, Jordan goes home and comes face to face with Hathor:

Hathor smiled, making her even more gorgeous, but her icy gaze …

Review 3 out of 5 stars!

Love the books that tease me with what could happen and then everything changes. What i love about this book is the mystery and the unknown, very exiting book. Giving the book an overall 3 out 5 stars. The book has a little bit of everything in the story, and the adventure that carries us through they are very good.

This was an awesome story that once I started reading , I could not put it down.

It moved along at a good pace and had a storyline and characters that kept me entertained for an entire evening, and I could not believe it when I was finished.

This book is definitely worth checking out.

Book Description: Jordan Lake discovers an ancient bracelet in her grandmother’s house and uncovers a family mystery that links her favorite actress, Audrey Hepburn, a romantic movie, and an aunt she never knew. Jordan hopes the bracelet will bring her love.

Instead, it brings one nightmare after another, unleashing Hathor, the Egyptian love goddess, who decides it’s fun to mess with the McKnight High School social scene. Jordan holds the key to vanquish Hathor, but will she figure out what it is in time to save her school, one of her best friends, and get a date to the Valentine’s Day dance?

My thoughts: Jordan is in a terrible situation. She put on a beautiful bracelet that was in her grandmother's attic. It is just like the one t…

Fun Audrey Hepburn Trivial

When I first came up with the premise of NO MORE GODDESSES, I pictured a teen who loved vintage clothing, romance, and classic movies. I tried to think of a 50/60s icon that would be PERFECT.

Then I thought of Audrey Hepburn.

What’s not to love about this movie star? I threw myself into researching all I could about her which including Netflixing most of her movies and reading her bios.

The more I read about Audrey, the more I totally fell in love with her.

When it came time to query my story, more than a few came back saying that no teen would know…
